The best thing when you're a musician or addicted to music is finding a new band or singer you love. Just hearing the beginning of a song and knowing you're going to enjoy listening to it a hundred times. That's what happened to me today with SUNNY DAY SETS FIRE.
I had heard, probably a year ago, one of their songs called "Wilderness", while I was listening to Urban Outfitters new playlist. The song was fresh, with a different kind of sound, a mixture of different instruments that sounded like a dream. The singer was telling me a story and I was buying it. I started putting the song on repeat and my flatmates were starting to get mad at me but I couldn't care less because when I love a song, I have to listen to it again and again to hear the tiny details no one even hears.
It's only today that I thought I should listen to their album and some of their songs I didn't know. This is how I realise they were psychedelic indie pop little monsters and that, my friends, I LOVE.
SUNNY DAY SETS FIRE is a quintet from London. Four boys and one girl all coming from different parts of the world such as Honk Kong, Italy, Canada and the UK.
The band was formed in 2001 but it was in 2008 that their American label issued a remix EP fearuring CSS and the Cool Kids which, let's say it, is a really good start.
After that, their own album was out. NME loved it and so did I.
Their music has been described as a "wild and volatile flood of gorgeous, exuberant pop". Still, only a few people know about them.
Their influence: The Wizard of Oz, The Beatles and The Velvet Underground.
The band split up in 2009 because the italian leader Mauro Remiddi wanted to go solo. Mistake......
Be a TrUe OuTsIdEr and see for yourself .
